Material Abstraction
Material Abstraction
Material Abstraction explores the limitations of industrial material impose on artist. I believe every material carries a certain level of abstraction (a spectrum that ranges from raw to artificial). While industrial materials may be more efficient to use, as an artist, I want the freedom to decide in different stage of materiality I engage with along the spectrum.
The first project in this ongoing series begins with dirt. Materials such as clay, concrete, and plaster are products formed through the abstraction of dirt. This project explores the combinations and the possibilities of using dirt as a raw material, focusing both on its physical characteristics and the instinctive response to the material.
